AAUW’s September 22nd speaker is Basma Ibrahim DeVries, Ph.D., a professor of Communication Studies at Concordia University in St. Paul, MN. Creating spaces of belonging and inclusion in these complex times requires heightened identity awareness, greater cultural sensitivity, and refined skills to bridge differences. Drawing from her international experience as an intercultural communication professor, trainer and consultant, and as one of the founding moms of GiGi's Playhouse - Down Syndrome Achievement Center- Twin Cities, Basma will share professional and personal experiences in her quest to create greater inclusion in communities here and abroad. This interactive presentation provides information on relevant intercultural concepts and perspectives on 'differabilities' (Basma's preferred term), prompts attendees to explore the influences of their own multilayered identities, and offers strategies and tips for promoting more inclusivity in our lives.
Basma’s talk is free and open to the public.
